Massage Conventions: A Good Time for All

It’s been about 15 years since I attended my first massage convention. I’ve attended numerous meetings of state AMTA Chapters, a lot of National Conventions, the American Massage Conference, the Canadian Massage Conference, the World Massage Festival (my favorite!) and the Massage Envy Franchise Convention. In fact, I spent last week with Gurukirn Khalsa, one of the owners of Soothing Touch, and my husband Champ, who likes to help out in the booth, at the annual Massage Envy Convention. This year’s event was held at the Gaylord Palms, a beautiful facility in Kissimmee, FL.

There were about 2200 franchise owners, managers, massage therapists, and estheticians in attendance. I met a lot of them. One thing Massage Envy does that I appreciate is to recognize their employees by giving awards for massage therapists and estheticians of the year. There were over 100 of them chosen, and they received all-expense paid trips to the convention, continuing education classes, and they were recognized at a beautiful awards dinner. The day following the dinner, the therapists and estheticians thought they were going to be attending a class, but the company sent them all on a free trip to Disney World. It is nice to see a big company recognize the contributions of their employees.

The day before that event started, Champ and I represented Soothing Touch at the annual Spring meeting of the North Carolina Chapter of AMTA. That’s our home crowd so we’re always happy to attend that event, and we always see a lot of people we’ve known since massage school days.

In a couple of weeks, we’ll be heading out to the World Massage Festival, which this year is being held in Cherokee, North Carolina. I’ve been teaching at this event for about 8 years, and I plan to do so until I’m too old to do it! The Fest is a different kind of event. The dress code is tye-dye! There are always about 40 classes on offer, and the owners bend over backwards to make their event fun and affordable to everyone. There is one full day with no classes, and the vendor hall open all day so people can shop without being rushed. Soothing Touch will be there! In addition to the great CE classes, there is also an opening night welcome party, the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, a keynote speech, karaoke night, and on the last night, a wonderful closing ceremony. It is really the best time I’ve ever had at a massage convention.

Soon we’ll be heading back to Florida for the Florida State Massage Therapy Association convention, and later this year, we’ll be exhibiting at the National Convention of the American Massage Therapy Association in Pasadena, CA.

We really enjoy traveling and meeting as many massage therapists as possible. It’s always good to see old friends and meet new ones. We especially enjoy introducing people to Soothing Touch, and hearing from those who already use our products. We’re always gratified to hear from the folks who support our products, and we appreciate you keeping us in business for 40 years! If you see the Soothing Touch booth at any conventions this year, please stop by and introduce yourself. We look forward to seeing you!
